Hi there! I am CJ, a mathematics and cybersecurity student based in the U.S.

I started my journey on computers in primary school when I would play Minecraft after school with my sister and try to find exploits in public servers. This led to me creating my own server with my own homebrew plugins, my favourite of which I published on my github! I slowly got into cybersecurity starting around 2021 and escalating moderately until 2025 when I decided to take a gap year to self-learn as much about white hat hacking as possible, which at time of writing is currently in the top 0.5% of all time on HackTheBox and no plans of stopping!

Mathematics has always been a big part of my life, up to deciding my major at university to be pure mathematics. Solving challenging problems is something I have always had a passion for and I love numbers, so it was a natural choice for me. My biggest accomplishment so far has been partaking in the Putnam exam in December of ‘24, a famously difficult annual opt-in math test exclusively for undergraduate students with an average median score of 0/120. I scored a 1, which I am very proud of.

Since I was 6 years old I have been regularly playing the piano. I took classical piano lessons for many years with some wonderful teachers, and recently started shifting into learning about jazz and improvisation. Every time I see a piano in public I am delighted to be able to sit down and play for a moment; I don’t have a count, but I have undoubtedly played dozens of pianos around the world. (You can always tell that it’s a delight for any shop workers nearby to hear someone experienced play rather than the endless waves of young children hammering notes with an open palm.)

To engage with my local community I enjoy participating in local community events, like speaking at my local Linux User Group and trivia night at my local rock climbing gym. Since moving to Colorado I have had the amazing opportunity to learn a city by walking it, and I have had a blast exploring side streets and learning to navigate by myself.
